It's always nice knowing that as a United fan I can expect my team to really bounce back after a loss and perform. Our manager makes sure that this team avoids any long dips in form by coming out the game after a poor performance fired up and ready to go. There is a great deal of comfort in that. I also take a great deal of comfort from a group of young United players, sprinkled in with a few wise old heads, dismantling an entire league's "All Stars". Maybe it's because I am Canadian and, despite really liking America and it's people, once in a while I get tired of how good they are at sports. I like beating them at Hockey and I love to see their "Soccer" league continue to be a joke. What ever the reasons for it, and maybe it's just cause Alexi Lalas is a douche, I really enjoyed watching that game last night.

Star-divide

Two goals for Macheda, one for Chicharito, Cleverley who looked very good and Gibson with a fine free kick did the damage for United. It was extremely pleasing to see the young strikers get on the board and let's be honest Scholes' passing combined with Chicharito's speed could be a very dangerous combination that we can use to unlock defenses. You also have to think that Michael Owen, who used to have similar pace to the Mexican, is a nice player to have around for Chicharito to learn from. Maybe in time Rooney can drop off Hernandez a little and not always been leading the line. Might keep him fresher and healthier if he isn't relied on to be the point of attack all the time. In fact, if Macheda continues the form he is in maybe Rooney can play a little deeper when the young Italian plays as well. Let's not forget how many goals Rooney set up for the likes of Ronaldo and Van Nistelrooy when they played together. He is a player who can score 20 and create 20 if he is played in the right way with the right players around him.

I am also very happy about the 188 comments we had on the game thread. Very happy. Well done to all of you for getting involved. I hope to see that number grow as the season gets under way.

Oh and as a Canadian I will say this...Dwayne DeRosario is a good player.

Next up it's Chivas Guadalajara and a chance to see Chicharito play for two teams in the same game. You have to imagine it is pretty special for a young player to return to his former club and play in front of his adoring fans in the shirt of the greatest team in the world. Let's see if he can handle the occasion. Something that is expected of a United player.

Any news on what half he'll be playing for United?

I was really surprised at how well he spoke English as well. Looking forward to this season even more now. Rumors are still trickling in that once Sir Alex is back in Manchester they’ll be tabling a bid for Ozil.

I read somewhere that it was

first half United second half Chivas. I think on manutd.com but not 100% sure.

Cool thanks

I suppose I could make a case for both but to me it’d make more sense to do the opposite to show his “transition”

Signing Ozil would pretty much guarantee that a lot of young guys would go out on loan. We’d have a logjam at midfield and likely one at forward as well since Chicharito will be pushing for playing time

Which is why I'm not totally convinced it's the right choice

Cleverley has looked amazing during this preseason and looks to be ready for the big times. I’d rather not lose him ala Pique.

Yeah I noticed the comments too. I suppose the time the game was played suited the readers here.

I am looking forward to Chicarito tearing up John Terry. Just fly by him!

Agreed

As much of a fan of United as I am, I’m NOT a morning person so during the EPL season I torrent all the games and watch them that night..

Do you check the scores first? I presume you don’t. I’ve done that once or twice but in the back of my head I know the game is done and over. Even though that thought doesn’t change anything it still ruins it for me anyway.

I'm the same way

I love watching “the game”…not just the goals. But once I’ve seen the score, or worse, know when the goals were scored…I can’t watch the game. However, there are some classics that I’ll watch hundreds of times, even though I know the result…saw a highlight video today of the 7-1 drubbing United laid on Roma a few years ago. That put a smile on my face.

7-1 brings back memories of Alan Smith.

I thought he could make it after that. Such a horrific injury though.

I still do, actually

I had class during the second leg of our semi-final against Bayern last season, so I had it taped and ready to watch that night. I couldn’t help myself and I kept checking the score online while I was in class, and by the time I got out I was so upset about the game that I just deleted it when I got back to the room.

Nope I like watching the games "live"

All of my friends and family know not to say anything specific about the game. They can ask “Have you watched the game yet?” and that’s it, otherwise I won’t be talking to them for quite a while haha.

I am about the most opposite to a "morning person" as there can be

I don’t have to come to work on weekdays until 10 or 10:30 in the morning and I am usually up until 2 or 3 in the am every night/morning.

But there is no way in hell I would rather sleep than watch United. No way. I get up at 5am sometimes to watch a noon kickoff even if I have only been asleep for a couple hours. I don’t see how I could sleep through a game then get up and not immediately check the score. How can you sleep knowing United are playing? Sometimes I forget to set my alarm, it’s happened twice, and both times I woke up 5 minutes after kick off wondering why I was panicking so much. There is nothing I would rather do than watch United. Sex? Maybe. Although sex while watching United would be cool. Sleep? Absolutely not.

I like having beer while watching the games

and I’m not about to drink at 6am, that and I can 9/10 times find an HD match. I live in Huntsville so it’s not exactly a town where I have to worry about being spoiled, go about my Saturday/Sunday as normal and then grab a sixer and throw on the game, oh that and I don’t have cable and I’m not about to insult my TV by watching a poor stream. :)

Well like they say

different strokes for different folks. I get too anxious if I don’t know what happened. I can’t go more than an hour without freaking out and checking scores. So I just get up and watch the games. I usually go right back to bed afterward and sleep real well when we win and not so well when we lose.

I live in San Diego

and not only can the lunch time game be at an ungodly hour (4:45 am) but my cable provider (Cox Cable) doesn’t have FSC in HD, but supposedly they’re trying to get FSC+ added to the lineup…so I’ll take that channel over HD, if it comes to that.

We have Setanta up here in Canada

it’s 15 bucks a month just for that one channel. And it’s regular definition. But still better than not watching United live. IMO.

Setanta doesn't exist anymore, I thought

They didn’t offer it in San Diego anyhow…I always requested it though.

It exists in Ireland

and Canada. Not sure where else. It was just the British Setanta that went under.
