watching the Rubin game now...

Just saw a highlight reel penalty kick…off the keeper’s foot and into the side of the net…Rubin Kazan 1, Barcalona 0

Barca draw even with a PK of thehir own

David Villa squeezed it past the right post….

Christian Noboa scored the free kick earlier for Kazan

Final score...1-1

Obifemi Martins nearly scored the winner about 8 minutes from the end and Barca had several chances late to put it away, but a point is all either team gets

I read that as Martians

which made it a very weird comment.

What's funny

I’d forgotten he left Newcastle, so I wasn’t expecting him, either.

4th minute: Berba shoots from about 20 yards

was alot closer on replay that I originally thought…

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 7:49 PM BST reply actions

The empty seats you see around the stadium

are because there’s a strike in Valencia among the public transit workers, which has been known about for a few weeks.

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 7:54 PM BST reply actions

11th minute: Goal kick to Valencia

Anderson passed the ball long to Nani instead of passing it short to a running Fletcher…not sure I like that decision

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 7:56 PM BST reply actions

13th minute: Anderson gets taken down

I didn’t see a card issued, but I saw it in the ref’s hand….

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 7:57 PM BST reply actions

14th minute: Fletcher does a good bit of work along the sidelines

some pushing and shirt pulling and the ball rolled out to United. Probably could have been something called on Fletcher

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 7:59 PM BST reply actions

16th minute: Carrick carelessly gives the ball away

Hernandes takes a long shot, but it’s just over the bar…

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:01 PM BST reply actions

17th minute: VDS barely touches the ball and it lands on Soldado's head...

…and bounces up and nearly loops into the net, but just over the bar….

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:02 PM BST reply actions

21st minute: Valencia open play up with a clearance

that ends up with a 1 on 2 for Valencia. United closes down very quickly and very well and squash the threat.

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:06 PM BST reply actions

26th minute: Evra in a collision with Navarro

Ref is keeping the card in his pocket for this game…

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:11 PM BST reply actions

31st minute: Ferdinand and a Valencia player get together

Neither was very happy about the challenge….free kick to United

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:16 PM BST reply actions

34th minute: Carrick is tripped up and United win a free kick

about 30 yards out on the right…Nani kicked it right at a Valencia player who heads the ball back out of bounds

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:20 PM BST reply actions

43rd minute: Valencia take a long shot

and it’s either off Vidic’s arm or chest and Valencia win the corner

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:28 PM BST reply actions

52nd minute: Rafael moves up the right with some speed

passes the ball to Nani, who crosses the ball to the top of the box….Berba, Fletcher and Park were all there, but Valencia is able to get to the ball

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:53 PM BST reply actions

54th minute: Anderson takes a short corner to Nani

who immediately took a VERY weak shot right to the keeper…what a waste of a corner

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:54 PM BST reply actions

55th minute: United brining the ball up again

Anderson was nearly free, just didn’t have the pace…United do win a throw in that they immediately give away to Valencia. Nani is not looking good at all as that was off of him….

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:55 PM BST reply actions

56th minute: Berba takes the ball up the left by himself

takes it into the box about 15 yards from net and nearly puts it past the keeper…United corner….made the keeper come out and he was fouled by Vidic

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 8:57 PM BST reply actions

60th minute: Valencia's corner is headed by Vidic, but comes right to Solado

but he’s unable to get a good foot on it and it’s a goal kick

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:00 PM BST reply actions

Gotta make some changes...

we need another striker…Hernandez, Machada, Owen….anybody…Park’s getting worked on the left and Nani is having an off game on the right

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:02 PM BST reply actions

63rd minute: Nanihas possession on the right

and Park goes on a run into the box and Nani gets a great cross off, but unable to connect with Park

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:03 PM BST reply actions

Rafael appears to have picked up a knock

he was tackled about 3 minutes ago and was a little slow to get up….now it looks like he’s hobbling a bit…maybe cramps?

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:07 PM BST up reply actions

but United get back pretty quickly. Soldado’s shot is off Evra and VDS picks the ball up easily.

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:08 PM BST reply actions

70th minute: Valencia take the ball into the box....

Vidic forces the ball out off the Valencia player….

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:10 PM BST reply actions

I usually don’t participate in these things since the Premier League games usually come on too early for me. I’ll record them and watch them delayed by a couple of hours. The time of the CL matches isn’t bad, but they fall on work days so I have to take a long lunch and go to the pub down the street for them.

Los Angeles is like Manchester. There is a red team that wins championships and a blue team that doesn't.

80th minute: ANOTHER impressive cross from Valencia

they’re impressive, of course, because United are letting them through and aren’t getting a foot in the way…

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:20 PM BST reply actions

81st minute: Nani and Soldado get tangled up

OMG! he has has arm wrapped around Nani’s ankle, STILL no yellow cards in this match. The ref must have left it at home….

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:22 PM BST reply actions

83rd minute: Hernandez gets through the back line

but he had no help in the box and gives the ball away when Valencia retreat…

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:23 PM BST reply actions

84th minute: Nani's cross misses Fletcher and Berbatov

Hernandez got a head on it, but it hits the outside of the post…

No idea why Fletcher and Park are still in this game

I think he is

I remember him rifeiling in one in the World cup. I think he has a decent right foot but his left is more promiment!

88th minute: United cross goes to the Valencia keeper

who gets tangled up with Mechada….the keeper gets up like he’s gonna blast Kiki’s face with his fist. Cooler heads prevail…

90th +1: United in possession passing the ball around

Nani gets free on the right and tries to pass the ball into the middle, but Valencia get in the way….

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:31 PM BST reply actions

Final whistle! United win 1-0

It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t dominant, but it’s the 3 points we needed…

by CPC on Sep 29, 2010 9:34 PM BST reply actions

A great 3 points

Valencia are top of La Liga, and even though it’s early doors, they are an in form team. To win away without Rooney, Scholes, Giggs and Valencia is a great result. Who cares if it were ugly!

by Sweet science on Sep 29, 2010 11:12 PM BST reply actions

No, I agree

I’ll probably get into the things that went wrong later, but the important thing is that we got 3 points away from Old Trafford (which we haven’t done all year) and we’re top of the Group C table

by CPC on Sep 30, 2010 12:58 AM BST up reply actions

The only real problem I saw

was a lack of pressure on wingers when they were crossing. Otherwise I thought we defended pretty well.

thats been a problem all year

that led to us losing the 3 points at Everton, and have been pissed off about it everytime I have watched us this year.
