Manchester United have officially announced that Javier Hernandez (Chicharito) has signed a new five-year deal -- something that his agent revealed 11 days ago. The Mexican striker was brought over to United in the summer of 2010 from Chivas de Guadalajara for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £8 million. Since then, he has scored 23 goals for United in 55 appearances. Here is what manager Sir Alex Ferguson had to say about Chicharito:

" The last player I remember making an impact as big and as quickly as Javier is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he reminds me of Ole a lot. His talent for creating space in the box and his finishing ability mark him out as a natural goalscorer. Off the pitch, he is a pleasure to manage. He works very hard and is a popular member of the squad."

Here is what Chicharito had to say about United and his future with the club:

"Player for Manchester United has been a dream come true for me. I never expected my first year to go so well and I'm delighted to commit my future to United. To win a title and appear in a Champions League final was fantastic. I'm looking forward to helping my teammates as we bid to win more trophies for this great club."

It has been speculated that a new deal is also in the works for striker Danny Welbeck. The youngster has shown remarkable improvement and as a result, he has established himself in the squad -- including being selected over Chicharito on Sunday for the derby. If the Welbeck deal gets finalized, then United have a strong trio of young strikers going forward -- Welbeck himself, Chicharito, and Wayne Rooney. 

There is speculation that striker Dimitar Berbatov -- last season's co-Golden Boot winner in the English Premier League -- will not get a new deal done before his contract runs out at season's end. However, it is possible that the club exercises their right to extend the 30-year-old's current deal by a year so that he could fetch a bit more in an upcoming transfer window if he were to be sold.
