Who is your Sir Alex Ferguson's greatest XI ever?
As most of you are likely aware, this Sunday will mark 25 years at Manchester United for legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The man holds many records and has won countless trophies during his storied time at the club. I thought it would be fun to open up the discussion on who Fergie's greatest XI ever was. There have been so many great players at United during his reign and it would be difficult to offer up a 'wrong' opinion since this is certainly subjective -- unless you mention Bebe. This idea stemmed from John Brewin's best Fergie XI.
It certainly seems like 4-4-2 would be the natural formation to choose for this but I am going to go against the grain. The United boss has probably used some sort of 4-4-2 more than any other shape during his time at the club. However, this typically has featured one withdrawn striker that plays between the lines and makes the shape close to either a 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1. Fergie has evolved as a manager and he began to see more success in Europe when he used a 4-3-3/4-5-1 more often during the past decade. Because of this, and because I could not leave out either Roy Keane nor Bryan Robson out of my XI, I have opted to present my Fergie best XI in a 4-3-3/4-5-1 shape.
In goal, the great Peter Schmeichel is the obvious choice but Edwin van der Sar certainly deserves appreciation. At right-back, Gary Neville -- who perhaps perfectly embodies the United spirit -- is the choice while Denis Irwin gets the nod at left-back. Both are capable of providing width with overlapping runs in this 4-3-3/4-5-1. In central defense, Nemanja Vidic and Gary Pallister are chosen for me over the likes of Jaap Stam, Steve Bruce, and Rio Ferdinand. I strongly considered Stam over Pallister but the latter was chosen for me because of the former's relatively brief time at the club. In the center of the park, Keano and Robbo provide the steel while Paul Scholes provides the class. I loved Brewin's comment that Scholesy's "first touch was always in his head before he received the ball." Brilliant description. Up front, Eric Cantona leads the line in attack and he is flanked by Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Who is your Fergie all-time best XI? Who makes your bench? I look forward to reading all of your comments in regards to this.

Pallister ahead of Bruce??
I would go 2-4-3-1 formation or the Christmas Tree:
Schmeichel
Vida – Bruce
Giggs – Keane – Robson – Beckham
Ronaldo – Scholes – Rooney
Cantona
Bench: Nevs, Irwin, Rio, RVN, Andy Cole, Solskjaer, VDS
I was banned from Bleed Cubbie Blue because my sig had the word "fuck" in it and I wasn't willing to change it nor was I willing to let Al Yellon access my account and make changes to my sig (which he did) so watch out for that ego maniac and his tyrannical ways.

Once we get a few goals
I might bring on some more defenders.

No Cantona?
The guy once scored no less than 6 times to give United 1-0 victories on the way to a title. He had everything. Pacier than he looked, great balance, two footed, just enough of a temper and just enough arrogance. He could beat men with ease, spray passes all over the park and was an underrated finisher. Plus his flair for the dramatic was unequaled.
I accept my ban from Bleed Cubbie Blue and hold no ill will towards Al Yellon for making that decision. He did access my account and change my signature now on THREE occasions. SBN users should know that some admins will abuse their power and access your accounts to make changes.

He was on my first ever United shirt
I picked Ruud because he will get you 25 goals a season, thirty five playing in that team….. And I can’t leave Rooney out.

Maybe it is because I see Rooney & Cantona as similar
And I like to have one creator (Rooney) & one Goal Getter (Ruud). Overall talent, I’d pick Cantona all day long

And Also
The Premier League has evolved IMO. I sometimes wonder how players of yesteryear will get on in the modern game.
Some people claim the 1970 world cup winning Brazil side to be the best. But for me… The Barca of the last few years is the best ever.
Some people say Pele & Maradona…. I say Messi

Can't really choose an eleven can't we?
I agree with Gene and Brewin a lot in their choice. No obvious choice for me. Could easily choose 2 different sides that are favourite.
