Transfer discussion thread #2

This will give everyone a forum to voice their opinions on potential transfers and a place to bring all the rumors that run rampant throughout the interwebs.

Definite needs/confirmed transfers (with most likely transfer if available):

* Goalkeeper- David de Gea

* Central Midfielder

* Phil Jones- CB/CM Blackburn Rovers

Ashley Young- CF/LW/RW Aston Villa

Transfers out:

Owen Hargreaves- CM

Paul Scholes- CM

Possible tranfers out:

* Darren Gibson- CM

John O'Shea- RB/CB/CM

* Wes Brown- CB/RB

* Dimitar Berbatov- ST

Tomasz Kuszczak- GK

Returning from loan:

* Tom Cleverley- Wigan- CM

Danny WelbeckSunderland- ST

Mame Biram Diouf- Blackburn- ST

* Federico Macheda- Sampdoria- ST

Out on loan:

* Ritchie de Laet- Norwich City- CB

* Bebe- Besiktas- RW

Three young players to add to the attack makes it very likely that at least one of them moves on either on loan or as a transfer.

If there is a mistake up here or I forgot a player, please let me know and I will update it.

interesting that the talk of him being linked to United has died down so much in recent months.

Considering Jones and Young’s arrival, it’s not that surprising though, especially since Jones seems to fit in the DMF/DC hybrid mold.

Raphael Verane

Haven’t heard too much about him recently either, anybody know what the recent news is on him? If we can get him for a lot cheaper than Rodwell, I wouldn’t mind picking him up.

L'Equipe is reporting...

that we have offered £9.2m for Verane…. but a few other clubs are inquiring as well. I’ve seen speculation that he may be bought, but allowed to stay at Lens for another season.

Why do we need him though would be my question

Rio, Vida, Smalling, Jones, and Evans atm

Unless he plays DM consistently?

And perhaps Fergie

has something other than central defense in mind for Jones? Maybe not but it is worth a thought?

Nahhh

Jones’s natrual position is CB. And I think a TOP dmid should be very mobile, e.g. Hargreaves when he didn’t need his crutches

I think the 1st couple of yards is more in his head

As for out and out pace. I don’t think so, but maybe im wrong.

Alos, with Hargreaves, not only was he quick, but he could run and run and run. Had a real good engine. I just think that, while Jones will get some games in the middle, he will be deployed mostly as a CB, and with the aim of him playing many years at CB

i think the jones transfer remind us

that the player united sign are never mentioned in papers etc and the first we hear of them is when they sign . evra , vidic, ronaldo, hernandez , nani etc were never talked about as trasfer targets until they were signing on the dotted line .
and players being linked to united will more often than not be arriving to the club , its not how ferguson does things . i even remember he went mad when ruud van nistelrooy told people he was signing with united and almost pulled the plug on the transfer

I certainly would love seeing him at Old Trafford

We desperately need re-enforcements in the central midfield… I doubt Fergie is done shopping but make sure we get help in the center of the pitch. It was the only area on the pitch last season where we were deficient at times.

I think it's inevitable

With the losses of Scholes, Gibbo and Hargo we’re looking VERY thin in the middle. I gotta think that a Modric, Sneider, Hamsik type HAS to be signed before the summer tour begins so that player has some time to gel with the team.

ChillMike brought up Alexis Sanchez in the Jones' analysis thread

The Sanchez saga has been a slightly tough one to sort out. It appeared that it was inevitable that he was headed to Barcelona, then Inter… and now there is talk that a €33 million agreement has been reached with Citeh. But then Sky Italia is now saying that United are to meet with Udinese in Barcelona about Sanchez.

Sanchez is terrific but I think his agent and Udine are attempting to drive up his price by trying to start a bidding war.

Ah that’s what it was, I must have read the article to quickly as I thought his agent said they were there and going to talk to Barca as well my fault.

I’m not as familiar with Sanchez as a lot of other players but i was under the impression he’s more of an attacking winger isn’t he? I’d have to think that any deal for Sanchez dries up most of the transfer kitty and that still leaves us with Anderson, Park, Cleverly, Giggs and Fletcher in the middle. That’s not exactly a midfield that would scare a team like Barca.

Ahh here's the quote
And one of those meetings is reportedly due to be with United in the Catalan capital, where they will also talk with Barcelona.

So unless it’s a bad translation looks like Barca is looking at Sanchez as well.

getting the feeling...

that Barca wants Cesc… and if they buy him, I’m not certain how much money they’ll have left. Even if Sanchez’s agent and Udine know this, they can still attempt to use Barca as a smokescreen for a bidding war.

Speaking of which

Just read an article where Sagna is quoted as saying that Cesc desperately wants to move back to Barca.

That begs the question, does that make it easier or harder for Nasri to head north and join United? From what I remember he wanted to wait and see what happened in the transfer market for Arsenal before penning a new contract. You’d have to think losing Cesc (even though the guy NEVER shows up in big games) would be seen as a negative by Nasri. On the flip-side if Wenger managed to lose Nasri and Cesc in one summer we might be seeing an angry mob headed to Mr. Wenger’s house!

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nasri truly wants to get out of there. I don’t think he would’ve even mentioned United if he hadn’t been seriously considering a move here.

A great player, but not what we need. Unless we get rid of someone like Nani

by Sweet science on Jun 15, 2011 12:05 PM BST up reply actions

Sanchez is like Cristiano Ronaldo

he basically plays at Udinese the same role that Cristiano play at United, could start on either wing, or in the middle behind the striker, he is very good, and last season he began to find the net more constantly, he score 12 in 30 matches, and take Udinese to the CL, he truly adds something, than neither Valencia, Park, Young or Nani have

by Angelo Banderas on Jun 15, 2011 9:25 PM BST up reply actions

I will say this...

it will be nearly impossible not to be excited over the talent that Sanchez brings… quality he has. My biggest concern is the plethora of quality wide players we (okay, that’s a good problem to have) and I hope this doesn’t dry up the well to bring in a world-class player in the center of the pitch. These are my basic worries… I don’t want to see Nani go.

Whats people thinking about the Glazers

We definatley have signed:
Jones. 17M
Young. 12M (Gene um correct me if im wrong)
De Gea 20M ish (again Gene um)

looking at:
Sanchez, 30ish
Modric 30ish
Nasri 12M

And players on there way out
Hargreaves release
Scholes Retired
Gibson 5M
Brown 2M ( just me making up number)
O’Shea 4M

My point is (sorry for the wait) that could be a massive investment. Even if you scrub off Nasri and Sanchez

by Sweet science on Jun 15, 2011 12:12 PM BST reply actions

ferguson has already said that he will invest heavily in new players this year

that is what convinced rooney to stay . ferguson can’t really go back on his word for fear that rooney might end up wanting to leave again next year . we could easily spend 80-100m on 5 or 6 new players but i think the figure will be more around the 50-60m mark with a few extra pounds from any outgoing transfers such as berbatov and gibson .

also on your DE GEA point as a signing , i think if he was signing he would have done so before the u21 championship the same way they signed jones . the longer it draggs on the more i think we are after a different keeper .

by irishfan35 on Jun 15, 2011 1:50 PM BST up reply actions

We will have De Gea im sure

But if not, who else will we get?
Stelekenburg – Id rather him than De Gea anyway
Neuar – same as the above
Akinfaev – same as the two above

by Sweet science on Jun 16, 2011 12:05 AM BST up reply actions

transfer values

Young – £16m
Jones – £16.5 (possibly some add-ons)
De Gea – rumors in the neighborhood of £18m-ish
Sanchez – The Sun is claiming £27m

As for Modric, my guess is that he’d need to be bought for about the same price as Berba was – if not more.

Keep in mind about Sanchez - trequartista as well

he actually came on strongly this season when he was deployed as a trequartista in the 2nd half of the season for Udinese – he struggled at the season’s start on the right flank. However, he did excel for Chile in the World Cup last summer on the flanks in their 3-3-3-1 shape. Sanchez could provide could similar versatility as I talked about in this article about Ashley Young:

http://www.thebusbybabe.com/2011/6/12/2218084/ashley-young-value-in-his-versatility

If Sanchez were actually to come to United, I wonder if this would effect the signing of Young – since it hasn’t been officially confirmed.

With Berbatov moving the other way

hypothetically if that deal got done would we need to bring in another striker or is Fergie going to give Welbeck a shot to be the third guy behind Rooney and Chicharito? I would love it if he did because I think Danny is a fabulous young talent. But I am not sure he will ever get his chance at United.

by Sweet science on Jun 17, 2011 4:19 PM BST up reply actions

Straight swap? No way that happens. There’s no way Berba’s worth any where near 20M and Chelsea’s 22M bid was deemed derisory. If Berba is worth 15, + 18M that’s 33M, which is probably in the ballpark of the Spurs’s valuation . I don’t necessarily think the report is accurate, more likely a writer putting numbers together to meet a specific value, but 18M + Berba isn’t as off-base as you think.

That, and with that many offensive minded players, it wouldn’t surprise me to see SAF revert back to the 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 with 2 wingers, thus, decreasing the demand for striker depth.

certainly possible in Europe

but I can see Fergie using the 4-4-1-1 partnership in the Prem as his go to lineup – this allows the brilliant partnership of Wazza and Chicharito. This shape was only vulnerable vs Barcelona and Arsenal… which both overran United in the middle with small passing triangles in the middle and movement b/t the lines.

The 4-3-3/4-5-1 hybrid will likely be back with Rooney leading that line… but expect to see plenty of 4-4-1-1/4-2-3-1

has said he wants to go to Chelsea. Wants to stay in London.

why would any player want to go to chelsea

they don’t have a manager yet so how will they know weather they will get playing time ? most players would want to talk to a manager b4 they sign with any team to ensure they featur in their plans and what their plans are etc . signing for a team with no manager is a serious risk and signing with chelsea is riskier than most teams , you just have to look at torres and schevchenco as players the owner signed and have been massive flops because the manager didn’t want them .

a full season of “good” Rooney and Chicharito will be a thing of beauty. They were tearing defenses apart in the latter half of the aseason.

Only downside is

Chicharito has a full summer worth of games to get through still.

The lack of news/activity the past few days is a bit disconcerting. I really hope it’s just because the media hasn’t got a hold of anything.

Today's latest

Here’s what I’ve seen…

  • Paris St Germain (PSG) are reportedly prepared to offer £10m or £12m for Berba, depending on your French news outlet.

Apparntly he was on holiday

where he was due to get married

But then he was caught with his trouser’s down. Im not sure Liam Ridgewell will be pleased, put it that way :)

So if he’s back from holiday he might well be undergoing a medical

United taking on two of Molde's young talent on trial

Ole Gunnar has suggested United take a look at Joshua Gatt and Sean Cunningham. Apparently SAF is going to take them in on a trial (not sure when) to see if he wants to pursue them on a permanent basis.

One guy I'm glad we haven't been linked to is

Neymar….. the guy is a nutcase he’s like Joey Barton, Mario Balotelli and Robinho sprinkled with a bit of Carlos Tevez all rolled in to one.

United linked with Chelsea.....

striker Daniel Sturridge – doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me

one rag has us going in for Nasri at £20m

The media is absolutely crazed with linking United to the top tier youth talent. This one has to be a no go. Though I’m willing to bet Sturridge has no future at Chelsea. I still don’t understand how parents could advice their kids to enter Chelsea’s youth program as no one has a chance to join the club. But oh well~

Edinson Cavani...

not headed to Old Trafford according to his agent. Strange because I’ve seen his name in the papers but don’t remember him being linked with United. The president of the club is now stating he’s worth " over €100M ". These numbers are getting out of hand. If he’s worth that then Messi might as well be worth €1B.

Pastore linked now with 3 English clubs as he seems to be on the way out

Looks like he’s not leaving for less than £45m.

At this point, do you want him for 45? I’d rather have Luka for 30-35. Pastore would pose the same problems as Sneijder to me. A 2-man midfield with Pastore would be too brittle, while having him play as the attacking midfield will ruin Rooney and Chicharito’s great chemistry.

Luka is proven and could slot right in.

For me...

Yes: Luka, Schweinsteiger
No: Sneijder, Pastore
Undecided: Nasri

Schweinsteiger was my candidate last season, but I don’t see Bayern letting him go after not winning their league. Schweinsteiger and Luka would be top class.

I really don’t think I want to get involved in the Pastore bidding wars, because when a player is THAT hyped, whoever wins is bound to be disappointed. I’m still undecided on Sneijder, and yes on Nasri, but not if we have to pay a premium to get him out of Arsenal hands.

I'm starting to get the feeling...

that if we do land a central midfielder, that it’s going to be Nasri. Call it a gut feeling I suppose…

united have a 20m bid in for nasri from 2 weeks ago that hasn't been rejected yet

maybe that’s why nasri wants to leave so bad , also inter milan signed a new midfielder which could make a move for sneijder a bigger possibility

It appears Sneijder is a done deal.

Still working out the final wages. I know Gene is questioning the fit, but I still think you should get his quality of player and figure it out later, especially since Modric and Nasri do not appear to be leaving their respective teams.
