Premier League Predictions

I usually don't like getting into the crystal ball and making predictions, but since it's so tempting, might as well take a hack at it. I think this will be an exciting season like the last one, with good competition between the clubs ranked 1-10, and some surprises as the relegation table. I see some big-name clubs (cough Chelsea cough) moving down while some moving up, but overall, here's how I see 'em.

1. Manchester United

2. Manchester City

3. Arsenal

4. Chelsea

5. Everton

6. Liverpool

7. Tottenham

8. Aston Villa

9. Sunderland

10. Fulham

11. Newcastle

12. Bolton

13. Wigan Athletic

14. Stoke City

15. West Bromwich Albion

16. Queens Park Rangers

17. Norwich City

18. Wolves

19. Blackburn

20. Swansea City

Leading Scorer: Darren Bent (will somehow stay with Aston Villa with 19 goals)

First Manager Sacked: Steve Kean (sacked at Blackburn after 5 poor games)

PFA Player of the Year: Nani (another great season at Man U)

PFA Young Player of the Year: Danny Welbeck (will supplant Berba halfway through the season and get chances with Chicarito's concussion at Man U)

Manager of the Year: Sir Alex Ferguson (who elese, Man U!!!)

Barclays Golden Glove: Joe Hart (good season as he almost leads his team to winning the Premier League)

Barclays Player of the Season: Nani (once again, I expect big things from him this season)

Carling Cup winners: Everton

FA Cup winners: Manchester United

Leicester City wins the Npower Championship, Blackpool finishes second, and West Ham United wins the playoff final. All three are promoted to the Premier League for 2012-13.

David De Gea will NOT start the season as Manchester United's starting goalkeeper, however will finish the season as the No. 1, being solid but unspectacular.

Bonus: Manchester United will lose to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals. Barcelona will defeat Real Madrid in an all-Spanish CL final.

Some bold predictions out there, but it's truly what I believe will happen. Another good season for SAF and United, as they extend their dominance in England once again, but fall short in Europe. Now hack at the predictions in the comments!

I actually think Liverpool will finish top 4

I see Arsenal out of the top 4. Luis Suarez is just a freak right now. Their midfield has been reshaped. No Europa League or.Champions League to worry about. Suarez will make Carroll better. Chelsea is aging but the talent is still there. I think City will again finish 3. Champions league is new for them. Mario is a head case. Tevez will he stay or go? Still have great talent. United just have too much up front and in the back four for everyone. Nani and Young will destroy the Premier League. Rooney and Hernandez will both bag 20 goals. De Gea doesn’t have to be great for the league title, but in Champions league I will get nervous towards the end of that League. I have United vs Real, after Real beats Barca, in the champions league. United do not get the treble as they fall to Real. But still get the double with FA Cup and Premier titles.

I dunno about Liverpool

We say every year the same thing. Suarez did play good at the tail end of last season and as well in the Copa America, but the playing styles of Suarez and Carroll don’t just mesh in my opinion. Plus, I hate Suarez.

If Charlie Sheen played for the Leafs, the Leafs would be #winning. If LeBron James played for the Cavs, oh wait, he already did that.

If you look at Suarez’s record, he scores everywhere he goes. What do you mean you don’t like Carroll and Suarez together? If they can hit long balls to Carroll he can just head them down to Suarez who can run by people or dribble around them (see Liverpool vs. Man U last year).

Agree

suarez is gonna kill it. Fortunately for us, Rooney is gonna tear a new one as well. Rooney should be player of the year. If he stays healthy, 25 goals and 10+ assists. I know the EPL is deeper than the other leagues, is more physical, but you just look at the wings and strikers for this team, and you wonder how can anyone defend them. Really wish Scholes would have stayed on for this season. But Cleverley really showed a lot during the preseason, especially against Barca and City. But hopefully they can the Champions league, I think that is what we want, they want and SAF wants.

Disagree with everything said here

I think Carrol andSuarez in time, rival Rooney and Chica as the number 1 striking partnership. And I really believe Liverpool have a good shot at displacing Arsenal in the CL. Maybe a CB and they will be there

Good shot? I think it's...

Almost a given that the Scousers get back into the CL at the end of this season.

Really, that playoff spot is going to be a battle between Chelski and the Gooners.

You really think Chelsea will drop off that much

I think it’s between Arsenal and Liverpool. City will battle Chelsea for 2nd.

The 2 teams I go back and forth on are Chelsea & Liverpool

I can see both in the title race still when Spring arrives but I can also see each just fighting for the 4th Champions League qualification spot. I see City being top 3, it’s just a matter if they are legitimate title contenders. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Arsenal miss out on the top 4. Spurs will have to claw and scratch their way higher than 6th in my opinion.

But I agree with the original poster, the prediction game can be somewhat futile. I don’t remember in recent times having a top 6 that is this strong. I could even see some mid-table sides like Villa, Everton, or Sunderland competing for spots in Europe via the Europa League.

Yeah, I like Everton too.

Solid midfield and attack should get them a good season. I debated between Arsenal and Chelsea for 3rd and 4th, and eventually gave the ups to the Gunners just cause Chelsea is aging and I believe they won’t start off good under a new system with Villas-Boas.

no way arsenal finish third

missed out on shea given who would have given them a very reliable keeper and haven’t signed a centre back or two that they also badly need .
they look like nasri is going to city and fabregas’s future is still up in the air

arsenal’s season could be over before it starts

They will sign a CB before end of Aug

They have to. Wenger would need sacking if he doesn’t

Really think United will win the league comfortably

I doubt they repeat home success, dropping two points all season, but I expect them to do much better on the road. Man, that front for is nasty.

I disagree, I think we will do very well at home

Maybe drop a couple more points but I don’t think we will lose at home all season in the PL

by Sweet science on Aug 15, 2011 9:29 AM BST up reply actions

They will do great at home.

But only dropping two points will be difficult to match. Hopefully they can match or even gain those two points back.
