Are strikers Javier Hernandez (Chicharito) and Danny Welbeck both set for a return from injury? According to a report by the Guardian, tests on Chicharito's leg revealed no serious damage. A rash challenge from Ashley Cole during Sunday's clash with Chelsea FC was feared to have resulted in an injury that would sideline the young Mexican striker for weeks. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson even brought up the possibility that he would be out a few weeks. However, it appears as if the striker will resume training in the upcoming days.
Welbeck was off to a tremendous start this season before he was forced to leave the 8-2 Arsenal match with a hamstring injury The 20-year-old has recovered well and he feels that he is ready if selected for the Leeds United match tonight:
"I trained last week and had a little rest on Sunday before coming back in again on Monday. I'm feeling good. I don't know the squad yet for Leeds but, if I'm called upon, I'm always prepared to be there as I feel ready. I wouldn't be training if I wasn't. These games mean so much to the club and I think bringing the youth through for these matches is always a big positive. I hope quite a few of them get a chance to show what they can do. There's a lot of talent at Manchester United and I'm sure, if they get a chance, they'll showcase that talent." - Danny Welbeck
Quite obviously this is good news but it is still uncertain exactly when either will be back. Fergie indicated last week that tonight's Leeds match would be the earliest possible return for Welbeck. As for Chicharito, there were indications of numbness in his leg after the Chelsea game so all precautions are likely to be taken. United are fortunate enough to have incredible depth up front as even Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen are finding it difficult to get a game. Tonight's match could feature either one or both and also Federico Macheda could play as well. Wayne Rooney is almost certain to be rested.
