Gene's tactics seems to be in place
Just that Hernandez is replaced by Park and most likely Park playing in Welbeck position with Giggs behind Welbeck.

Welbeck replacing Hernandez I mean.

LOL
at Evra winning the header out right off of Carroll
Great Strike!
First foul on Evra leads to Valencia hitting the post…please Reds…can we have some more????
by Amen Amachigh on Jan 28, 2012 1:05 PM GMT up reply actions
Why is he standing behind them????
The first four games they’ve done that to you…the refs have not bailed you out. YOU’RE STARTING AGAINST LIVERPOOL, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR OPPORTUNITIES KID

Because if you stand in front of them
How do you deal with anything back stick?

You have to remember
He is still a boy
He needs to hit the gym though IMO

who was marking Agger?
If you’re gonna make a big show of standing next to him…you may as well jump when he jumps right?

Yeah
the service he’s getting isnt’ the best…but he could be working a lot harder to get himself into the game…this is a big opportunity for him too…

YES!

Ji Jung Park: Big game player
What a finish.

Great work from Rafael too
Him & Park have been our standout players IMO
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 1:28 PM GMT up reply actions
Espically Rafael
He had to hustle to come out from where he was to get the ball and then control it propertly. It was just a hard working goal.

Absolutely...
He’s got alot of heart when he plays. Always trying to make the right play and even when he screws up he admits it in his facial expressions that he should of done better.

He’s got alot of heart when he plays
That is why he is so endearing to me. Brazilian by birth…… English by nature :)
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 1:50 PM GMT up reply actions
Rather that than doing the opposite
Doing what I call a “Berba”
And to be fair, to you blame him :)
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 1:32 PM GMT up reply actions
Not at all
Can’t blame him for being jacked up for the game…just wish he’d settle down a little bit….I honestly never liked the decision to make him captain. I guess SAF was forced into it by injuries and seniority, but Evra has never struck me as a calming figure or a galvanizing, inspirational guy. I mean, Keane was never a calming influence, but at least he inspired the team. I’ve never seen that from Evra.
by Amen Amachigh on Jan 28, 2012 1:35 PM GMT up reply actions
He digs in and does give his all for the team
He forever runs down that left side. He’s a battler
However I would rather the armband to be given to someone in the spine of the team. However Giggs & Scholes have never been captain material in my eyes, despite all of their talent….
Evans & Smalling, despite both having great seasons…… Not for me….. Carrick isn’t captain material either
Keeper…… Leave off giving it to the Spaniard
That leaves Welbeck, Park & Rafael….. out of all of them Park is the most captain material imo. But I like Evra over him if im being honest
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 1:39 PM GMT up reply actions
Carrick is like Scholes
Too quiet that he won’t have much influence in the game.. So making him a captain won’t fuss him but nothing extra will come out from it..
Right
I get the mindset. I guess if you’re choosing between Park and Evra, you have to choose the more vocal of the pair. And we’re really talking about the 3rd choice captain, so it’s a little nuerotic. Then again….thats why we’re fan(atic)s.
by Amen Amachigh on Jan 28, 2012 1:43 PM GMT up reply actions
Man...
Is it just me or has Giggs’ touches been a little off all game? He just can’t seem to find Welbeck.
HT 1-1
An enticing cup game
I feel a mistake will be costly for either team
Hopefully De Gea has already got our mistake out of the way…..
I don't think it's 100% De Gea fault..
50%.. The defence didn’t really help him.. They should be sandwiching the players in between them and the GK.. (Unless De Gea feel uncomfortable touching opposition).
He has to command that box
The defense wasn’t blameless…. But De Gea has to do a lot better. That is why he is playing for United, why we paid nearly 20M
He HAS to do better
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 1:46 PM GMT up reply actions
Good possession let's make somthing out of this.
by dingmajiao on Jan 28, 2012 1:56 PM GMT via iPhone app up reply actions
Rafeal laying his body on the line once again
If De Gea had his heart he would be 100% a much better keeper at claiming those crosses
That Rafael
He’ll put his body in danger won’t he? Him and his brother, God love em lol
Rafa slightly more so than his brother
I think Fabio is slightly more talented with ball at feet though
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 1:58 PM GMT up reply actions
They both could use a little wisdom on how to play with passion and in control.
They’ve got talent, but they can’t stay on the field bc of how hard they play.
by Amen Amachigh on Jan 28, 2012 2:03 PM GMT up reply actions
Not excited to see Bellamy warming up
He’s the one player Pool needs right now…somebody who can run at the defense.
Remember the way he ripped apart Rio at OT
In that 4-3 game?
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 1:59 PM GMT up reply actions
I try to keep those things out of my mind...
Thanks for that though :)
by Amen Amachigh on Jan 28, 2012 2:01 PM GMT up reply actions
One of the best games I have ever seen
Bellamy deserves the respect of recollection IMO
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 2:03 PM GMT up reply actions
Jesus
Smalling showing his ability to trip at the wrong moment once again
Done well to recover though
Should have shot instead of trying to go around the keeper
by Amen Amachigh on Jan 28, 2012 2:02 PM GMT up reply actions
Not for me
Would have been difficult on hos weaker foot.
Just needed to take the ball with him around the left side I think
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 2:03 PM GMT up reply actions
I'd like to see Rafael and Valencia combining on the right side
instead of them just hoofing it out to Valencia everytime….lets get some guile about what we’re doing.
That is out of order IMO
Ref’s need clear fucking interpretation on how to punish two footed tackles
I do too
But the ref’s all need to make that decs….
He is probably the only Ref that would have let that go
All the rest would have sent the man off. You need consitincy
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 2:09 PM GMT up reply actions
I agree
I was shocked he didn’t even get a card. I had my head in my hands when I saw it. I do think a tackle like that is definitely worthy of a yellow.
"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly
Oh yeah...
THAT’S why Da Gea is rated so highly
I would like to see Valencia be a little more direct when he recieves the ball
Rafa could help in drawing the players away, as you mentioned Amen
Couldn't have said it better
Although Bellemy & Carrol might link up well

Scored in his last two appearences at Anfield
According to commentator
I bet he’l love a last minute goal too
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 2:18 PM GMT up reply actions
I figured Scholes wasn't going to play the whole game...
Well done Ginger!
Good
Up top on his own he has to keep the defence honest playing off the last man
He is most dangerous when he does that and then drops off on other plays. That means the defense doesn’t know to stick or twist IMO
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 2:21 PM GMT up reply actions
S or T
I mean follow him to the hole or drop off in case he runs behind
It also allows him to run at the defense with the ball with Chica running in behind

Him Carrick and Giggsey
Pased circles round them for passages of play

I still say
If Danny Welbeck makes the right pass to Evra…this might have had a story book ending. Still, horrible defending. Gah….I hate losing to Liverpool bc I don’t respect them as a team….at all.
We have got to get healthy.
When is the last time fergie made a good substitution?
I knew we would lose control of the game with scholes out.
We don't need no meow; we don't need no cats!
I thought it was good to give Scholes a rest
I didn’t know that he was single-handedly keeping us in the game…
by Amen Amachigh on Jan 28, 2012 2:45 PM GMT up reply actions
I would have prefer he took off Scholes for a midfielder
And Hernandez for Welbeck..
It's not like we are chasing a game
And that 3 man midfield, Liverpool have no answers to it..
He wasn't single handedly keeping us in the game.
He was single handedly dominating the midfield though. He was playing like Xavi plays for Barca. Spraying the ball around, holding possession….as soon as he went off carsick turned the ball over on a good string of possession and Liverpool dominated the rest of the way.
We don't need no meow; we don't need no cats!
Another year of failure in the FA Cup
Win that bloody damn thing.. .’
Every year it's something else
I guess the only positive is that this team can concentrate on winning the league. With the injuries we have, its amazing that we’re 2nd.
by Amen Amachigh on Jan 28, 2012 2:48 PM GMT up reply actions
I can't
They pay 35 million pounds for a one trick pony who is a lazy trainer and, besides his height, has no discernable football skills whatsoever…they have 8 or 9 midfield players…their defense was ordinary before they got Enrique. And yet for the past 3 years, everytime they play us, they manage to live up to their hype….or play above the sum of their parts, depending on your perspective. This Liverpool hoodoo is frustrating. I’m looking forward to playing them when Nani, Rooney, and Cleverly are all healthy.
I'm looking forward to playing any team, not just LFC, once we have a fully healthy team.
That’s the problem though. We get a guy back and lose one more. We are never healthy. I’m not so sure health is the problem against LFC. we just aren’t good at Anfield….especially since Kenny took charge. He seems to have fergie’s number head to head.
We don't need no meow; we don't need no cats!
It's like any derby match
Money and talent go out the door and it turns into a gritty grind it out affair. Everton could be in the Second Dvision and I’d still be nervous playing them. I think we can all agree that Liverpool v Man U has become a derby. It just doesn’t have a name yet. In fact, I think I look forward to and dread this match more than Everton anymore.
As for Liverpool, it seems we only turn up for the big matches. We draw against all the shit teams at home.
Oh, and Carroll is a zero-trick pony. He can’t even use his height to his advantage. I chalk up his flick to the saying “even a broken clock is right twice a day.”
"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly
I don't think you can say that.
The injuries on this team would have any other team fighting to stay in the top half of the table. We are on our 3rd choice winger (Valencia), we signed back a retired man to start in midfield for us. We are missing 3 of our 4 first choice midfielders. We are second choice across the back besides Evra. We have a 20 year old at keeper, who is being beaten out by a guy who was playing for a 2nd division team in Denmark recently. Tell me what other team could survive that? So no, i don’t think that not winning a trophy this season would be a disaster.
by Amen Amachigh on Jan 28, 2012 2:52 PM GMT up reply actions
Any season Manchester United doesn't win a trophy is a disaster.
Particularly if you mix in the fact that we missed out on the UCL knockout round in a rather weak group, lost in the carling cup to crystal palace, lost in the FA Cup to LFC, and looking at city being the most likely team to win the league…..that all adds up to a disaster of a season for me. We better win the league…
We don't need no meow; we don't need no cats!
It is still impressive that Scholes can come back out of retirement and dominate like that. But they have not addressed his proper replacement yet and it shows. I do feel that when Ashley Young returns it will be a big help. The attack was lethal with him and Nani fully healthy supplying the forwards.
my issue is that with all that money involved and how big a club this is the squad should have a bit more cover and less deadweight.
Exactly.
We have such a rich history of great, even legendary, center midfielders that it’s astonishing how thin we are there now. Tom Cleverley is very good but we shouldn’t be so thin there that as soon as he goes down for an extended period of time we’re so screwed that giggs has to play there every game and scholes has to come out of retirement. Where has Anderson gone? He came on against Blackburn and I haven’t seen him since.
We don't need no meow; we don't need no cats!
I'm of the opinion that there is sigficantly less money for us to spend than usual
And honestly, we’ve seen this before from Man United. Lets not act like we’ve won the Premiership every single year. From 2002-2003 to 2006-2007, we didn’t win the league. If memory serves, Arsenal won it once and Chelsea won it twice. That was a rebuilding time for the team, a lot of young players were coming through (Ronaldo, Rooney, Fletcher, O Shea, Brown etc) and we were building the team back up. Then we won the premiership in 06-07 and in 08 we had the double. I think we’re seeing the same thing here. We’re not buying players, we’re building from within, we’re staying competitive and challenging for the titile, but we’re not clearly the best team in the league. And that’s ok for me…if we dont’ win the league this year, i will be fine with that bc I know what the manager is doing. We’ve seen it time and time again.
by Amen Amachigh on Jan 28, 2012 3:07 PM GMT up reply actions
I understand that
And I see the future of the team in attack and defense but aside from Cleverley I don’t see the United calibre center midfielder coming through. Some of you might say Pogba but he never plays. He’s an unused sub every game. Fergie doesn’t even have the confidence to bring him on against bottom clubs. And it seems as though we’re having trouble signing him to a long term deal…same thing with Morrison.
We don't need no meow; we don't need no cats!
the Scholesy substitution changed the match
He was completely dictating the match. He had an incredible 73 passes completed at halftime at a 97% success rate.

I agree 100%
I knew it would change the game for the worse as soon as I saw 22 on the board. Giggs and Welbeck were off from the start. I thought Giggs should’ve been the one taken off instead of scholes.
We don't need no meow; we don't need no cats!
I agree completely as well
It is amazing how good he still is. I have a special place in my heart for Gingers. A very small place for a Manc Ginger, but still a place.
He was fantastic, just in complete control.
"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly
I would have liked to see Giggs come off too
He just wasn’t his best today…which is understandable. Before the season, I doubt Fergie planned for him to be playing 90 minutes week in and week out.
Very true...that was evident at the start of the season when giggs almost never got a start.
That also comes back to our lack of depth at the center of the midfield. the fact that we have to play giggs there so often now coupled with having to bring back scholes shows that fergie needs to stop ignoring that part of the pitch every summer. We don’t have enough quality or quantity at center midfield.
We don't need no meow; we don't need no cats!
Giggs never starts as much at the start of the season
He always plays great from about December onwards
by Sweet science on Jan 28, 2012 3:15 PM GMT up reply actions
I don't think Fergie is ever going to pay big money for another big name center midfielder
He’s not gonna get Veron’ed again lol
