De Gea called in sick?
Is he going to bring a doctor’s note in when he comes in tomorrow?
something that definitely needs some clarification

Calm down son
I think it was just a little joke :)

Didn't mean to imply anything
Just sounds ridiculous for a professional footballer to phone in sick.
anything I hear about an athlete being sick...
I automatically think about Michael Jordan and his epic performance vs the Utah Jazz in the NBA Finals while he had the flu

In fairness, there was only 14 first team players to choose from.
Side Note: Minimalizing others accomplishments makes me feel better about myself.

the guesses of Smalling, Rio, Evans, Berba, and Chicharito all made tactical sense

Few thoughts on the Stoke lineup
- Crouch & Jones starting shows clear intention to hoof the ball long and pound the box. Pulis usually has someone off of either Crouch or Jones anticipating knockdowns. Amos MUST command his area.
- Etherington torched Valencia last time around… he limped off at the weekend vs Derby County so I’m pleased to see him on the bench only.
- No Delap… that long-throw doesn’t really work at Old Trafford
- No Woodgate at right-back… Pulis went for more mobility there against our wingers.

im glad this is a OT
At the Britannia he would be under intense pressure
by Sweet science on Jan 31, 2012 8:01 PM GMT up reply actions
Fergie wouldn't do this...
but it would be tactically fascinating if we played in a 3-4-1-2 shape vs this Stoke lineup
- 3 CB’s allow for a spare man in the back vs the aerial threat of Crouch & Jones.
- Valencia and EVra as wing-backs
- Scholes & Carrick playing as deep-lying playmakers
- Park in a free role to link midfield & attack

when Rio plays...
our back four play much deeper…. a good 5-10 yards it seems. There’s going to be a lot of space ahead of our center-backs and behind our central-midfielders

what I like about Smalling, Jones, and Evans back there
they can play higher because they’re faster on the turn. Thus, keeps things compact between the lines.

commentater makes a good point
Evans is coming out of defense because Stoke are sitting V deep. Gives us an extra man and it is causing them problems
Evans is very much the challenger out of the duo...

Back in style, indeed.
Yellow card for Scholes.
Substitutions
Think there’ll be any subs right before the second half? I don’t think so.
some HT stats
- Possession: United 75%-25% Stoke
- Shots (on target): United 5(1) – 3(0) Stoke
- Aerials won: United 0-7 Stoke
- Scholes’ passing: 62 passes completed at 90% success rate, 10/13 long balls
- Carrick’s passing: 55 passes completed at 89% success rate, 4/4 long balls
- Park’s 3 tackles lead all players
Editor-in-Chief for The Busby Babe | SB Nation Soccer Contributor
http://twitter.com/#!/GeneUmTBB
Guesses on when Scholes comes off?
I’m saying this when considering his fitness and that he played at the weekend. Also, he’s sitting on a yellow…
My guess is Giggs on for him at 63’
Editor-in-Chief for The Busby Babe | SB Nation Soccer Contributor

Fergies quotes on him sure will be interesting now he has left
Apparntly his agent charged West Ham a ridiculous amount in fee’s…. So that is why he “turned down” contract after contract

It seems like there’s no harm in having the option. If he suddenly matures and you think he can make it you bring him back, otherwise don’t bother and you’re still rid of him.
Is there an expected return date for Vidic?
