Manchester United V Liverpool: Player Ratings

Here are the player ratings for Manchester United's game againt Liverpool this past Saturday. For the Liverpool ratings, click here for Bromatic's take over at Anfield Asylum.


A score of 1 being the lowest (Eric Djemba-Djemba standard), 10 being the highest (Messi like) A score of 6 will be standard, 7 is solid, a very good game will get an 8, 9 is good for outstanding and 10 is unplayable. 10's will be very rare. Not only will they have to play the game of their life, but it will usually come against a team of good quality or in a big match (Finals, championship deciding game's etc.)

David De Gea - For the second week running, the Spaniard had a solid weekend. Didn't screw up, made some solid saves. Good stuff. Got a little reprieve when Luis Suarez snuck in front of him to head toward goal, but the Liverpool man was offside (And he stuck the header over too). Couldn't do anything about the goal. 7/10

Rafael - The little Brazilian shows so much desire it is endearing. He flys into challenges and win's the ball when he shouldn't. Gets down the right wing and helps Antonio Valencia cause havok too. Very good performance, keeping Stewart Downing quiet too. 8/10

Jonny Evans - Another good game in which he showed such great composure on the ball (Rio would be proud). Received the ball in numerous dangerous positions, yet still worked his way out of trouble, retaining possession. The only mistake he made was not heading the ball away from the free-kick that led to the goal. Shame that. 7.5/10

Rio Ferdinand - Made some vital challenges. The Suarez one was particularly pleasing (Unless you are Jamie Redknapp, the tool). The ball bounced off of him for the goal, but he had such little time to react, you can't really blame him. 7.5/10

Patrice Evra - Well at least it was an improvement on last week, not that that says too much. Still is getting skinned far too often which cause us too many problems. Glen Johnson caused us far too many problems when he galloped up the right wing. 4.5/10

Antonio Valencia - What a fine fine player he has become. Not only can he dribble past players and whip the ball in dangerously, but he can also pass the ball into good areas and set free attackers. He has such a great understanding with Wayne Rooney and Jose Enrique will be glad to see the back of him. Nicked the ball off of Jay Spearing to set up Rooney for his second 8/10

Micheal Carrick - Another solid showing from the midfield man. His passing is accurate. Done a good job shielding the defense, but didn't do alot going forward on Saturday, contrasting to recent weeks where he has been getting into the opposition's box a little more than usual. 7/10

Paul Scholes - Was a little wasteful in possession early on, but still put in a good showing. Could have, or more accurately, should have scored a first half header, but put it straight down Pepe Reina's throat. Really took control of the game with Carrick in the second half - 7/10

Ryan Giggs - Not his best showing. Gave the ball away quite often, but he took up some great positions that helped us take control of the game in the middle of the park. Not his best day at the office though 5.5/10

Danny Welbeck - Done so well in linking the play up, holding up the ball, and working hard for the team. Dove-tails with Rooney wonderfully well. There one-two's are a thing of beauty. But he was also so frustrating whenever he got into the box. Made some dumb decisions and is no way near as clinical as his talent deserves. Still, a wonderful player with great potential. 6/10

Wayne Rooney - Brilliant. Just fantastic. The timing of his two goals was perfect. His link up play was sublime all day. And as always, you are going to get the work ethic that has become so typical of his play. More of the same please 8.5/10
