Transfer talk: Another youngster set to snub a contract offer?

Anything to get my beloved Aldershot in a picture. (Photo by Ian Walton/Getty Images)

In the week Manchester United lost Ravel Morrison to Londoners West Ham United, talks have flared up of another highly regarded prospect stalling on a new deal. Ezekiel (Zeki) Fryers has made a handful of appearances for the first team this year in the Carling Cup, and while the hype surrounding the young defender is not as large as Morrison, the fact these youngsters are heading for the exit is slightly worrisome. Sky Sports has this

Fryers has come through the ranks at United and made his full debut in the first-team in the Carling Cup win over Leeds earlier this season. The versatile defender has gone on to make five further appearances this term and he is highly-regarded within the corridors of Old Trafford. United are keen to tie down Fryers to a new deal, but the defender is thought to have snubbed their initial offer as he holds out for a better contract. Talented defender Fryers, 19, is coming to the end of his current deal and could be snatched away in the summer for a small fee, with Tottenham leading the list of interested teams.

The fact it appears it is only an initial offer is slightly reassuring, yet I would still rather not be having this discussion at all. These youngsters need to earn their corn instead of demanding money that is above their achievements.

Thus far he has looked a solid defender, having been deployed at both centre back and left back. He has looked assured in all his performances I have watched, including one live match at Aldershot.

Here's hoping the club get this contract tied up, as well as that of Paul Pogba's.

I dunno I'm not too worried (yet) assuming that report is accurate

That’s just how negotiations go… Sure I agree youngsters shouldn’t be demanding outrageous wages, but they shouldn’t have to accept any contract the team offers either, so I’m fine with him rejecting an initial offer in hopes of a better contract.

Hopefully they can work something out though, he has looked good when he’s played.

There's a difference between trying to get what you perceive as the market rate

and trying to get out of dodge. I assume we’re seeing the former… hopefully all will work out. In SAF we trust.

Glory glory Man United, AND the other MU, AAAAnd the Leafs. Experiencing cheering whiplash for decades..

I think maybe the media are a little more interested in a youngster’s deal considering Ravel and Pogba’s issues recentley

Maybe he sees the roster in front of him

and doesn’t anticipate getting the playing time that he wants?

Short-term maybe but I can't believe he doesn't see the opportunity at CB and LB within 3 years.

With a healthy Vidic, I have to believe he would have been sent out on loan in January but he’s needed as worst case cover now.

Europa League would be the perfect time to get some run. I’m really hoping Fergie uses that competition for the youngsters.

+1

I want to see a little more of Will Keane. Last year scored a good amount in the under 18’s and this season has 7 goals in 6 reserve games, or something like that. Scholes has likened his finishing to that of RVN! Sweet
