Ryan Giggs you beauty. Written in the stars. They day of his 900th appearance and he scored the winner in injury time. Ashely Young provided a wonderful cross from the left and Giggs came sneaking in at the back stick. How Manchester United was that performance. A goal that has kept us in the title race after City's easy 3-0 win at home to Blackburn
United started wonderfully. Nani seemed to have found his form. He was teasing the Norwich defense with his trickery, and our first came from his cross. It was one of those that curled behind the back four but beyond the keeper, and found an unmarked Paul Scholes. A day for the old timers today.....
But Norwich crept back into it. They tested us with several set pieces that the defense, aided by the brilliant David De Gea dealt with. What was worse was how they found space behind our Left back. The poor Evra, once again, lost his man Anthony Pilkington who bore down into the 6 yard box. With the goal gaping, he went low. De Gea's legs saved the day. What a stop.
The Spanish keeper then saved our bacon once more. A whipped in ball was deflected toward him and he clung onto the ball. Great reflexes.
A chance fell to the quiet Javier Hernandez late on in the half. But his effort was tame. It got stuck beneath his feet, thus making it difficult to generate much power into his shot.
United came out and played well at the start of the second. We had our foot on the ball, and played in the opposition half, causing them problems but without creating many chances at all. But Norwich were far from dead. They always looked potent and we had to be sharp defensively. Phil Jones in particular had to play a disciplined game. I can't really remember a trademark steaming run from him that we are so used to seeing.
But the equaliser came. The ball bounced around in our box and Holt turned on the penalty spot and fantastically finished. Gave the keeper no chance. United had to response quickly.
And so it was left to Ryan Giggs to keep our title hopes alive. The moment arrived.... He didn't disappoint. Moments like these can shift momentum. This will give us momentum going into the Spurs game next Sunday. A Spurs side that are coming off of a 5-2 loss to Arsenal, after going 2-0 up in the first half...
A Spurs side without influential Scott Parker. Who was sent off in the second half. A task that just got a little easier, but still a very hard task indeed.
Lets talk David De Gea. He was sublime today. He took several crosses under pressure. he cut out one cross from out wide with a fantastic dive but still clung onto the ball. Almost reminds you of a Peter Schmeichel, the way he hung onto the ball today. Fantastic.
But the day belonged to Ryan Giggs. What a servant he has been to the club. On his 900th appearance, he did not disappoint. Written in the stars I tell you....
