What a massive win. Huge. On Saturday City drew at home to Sunderland and lost their 100% home record. Tonight, two fantastic goals proved the difference and we are now 5 points clear at the top of the table. And I now believe that is an unassailable lead.
Antonio Valencia looked our most likely player tonight to provide the cross that led to the goal. However when he stormed into the box and unleashed a shot with the outside of his right foot into the inside netting, no one would have thought he would have provided the breakthrough with that level of emphasis.
And a few minutes later it was the South American winger who found sub Ashley Young. His back to goal, he turned sharply and shot in an instant. Perfectly placed. Paul Robinson had no chance. Two lethal blows. And Roberto thought United were sure to draw at Ewood Park..... Not a chance!!!!
United largley dominated possesion. Paul Scholes was a delight to watch once again. Yet for all the possesion their was a lack of a cutting edge. Javier Hernandez had two early chances, yet once was hacked wide and the other was saved on the line.
Blackburn too had chances, yet De Gea was fantastic all night. The pick of the saves came late on in the first half. First of all he punched the ball half clear. It was smashed back in by Ollson and De Gea somehow got a hand to it and tipped it over. He has been the best goalkeeper in the league ever since he returned to the side, after being dropped after his woeful showing against Rovers on New Years Eve.
And Rio Ferdinand. Oh my did he step up to the plate in the second half. Yakubu looked certain to grab an opener. Yet he somehow managed to make a tackle on divert the cross for a corner. Big players at big moments win you championships. And Rio proved he is still a massive cog in the Manchester United machine.
This is why we are now in prime position to get number 20. We have the players that have been their and done it. That know how to deal with squeaky bum time. That know how to get the job done. We also have match winners at both ends of the pitch. Valencia has been phenomenal. Rooney, while quiet tonight has been wonderful the past few months. De Gea has been a massive player. Evans, Rio, Scholes..... The list goes on and on. Some have experience. Others not. All have the belief in themselves. Maybe City don't....
Manchester United next take on QPR at home. City.... Arsenal away..... That is why three points tonight was massive. The pressure is right on City now to get a result, otherwise, that will be game over for City's chances.
Patrick Viera.... STICK THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT!!!!
