Brazilian right back Rafael has signed a new four deal deal with Manchester United. Having joined in the summer of 2008, the current deal will now see him stay at Old Trafford until the end of the 15/16 season. ManUnited.com has these quotes, from the player and the Gaffer
"Rafael is one of the club’s brightest young prospects; he has no fear of playing and has great belief in himself. The boy has developed immensely since joining United, his energy and enthusiasm are a joy to watch. Rafael has all the attributes to become one of the best full-backs in the world and I am delighted he has signed a new contract."
Sir Alex Ferguson
"I am so happy to sign a new contract," Rafael told us. "I love playing for Manchester United, there is a great team spirit here and a real desire to win.
"My time here has been unbelievable; winning two league titles, a league cup and a Club World Cup has made me hungry for more trophies. I would like to thank Sir Alex for his belief in me and I would also like to thank the fans for their support."
Rafael
Rafael, 21, has been called into the Brazilian national squad and will now look to become a constant in the Manchester United first team, but will have to fight off competition for the right back berth with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. This could prove to be an interesting dual, because while Rafa has shown amazing promise, his game can still be blighted with some heinous errors, such as the one that allowed Iker Munian to slot home for Bilbao after deciding to watch a ball go free 6 yards out from an open goal. Having said that, maybe the best out and out left winger in the league, Gareth Bale, has not had a good game against the Brazilian that I can remember. If he can take these performances, and play like that week in, week out, his enthusiasm and energy will see him become a fans favourite. Because the way he plays the game is very endearing.
Meanwhile, his twin brother is still expected to go out on loan, with QPR looking likely. That is despite persistent rumours of United being very interested in Leighten Baines, who at the money being talked about (In the region of £20M), would be a waste of much needed funds that can be spent elsewhere on greater needs.
And Lastly, the club has confirmed four departures. Micheal Owen and Thomas Kuszack, who we already knew about. And two young keepers, Liam Jacob and Joe Coll. Kuszack has joined Brighton, while Jacob has been snapped up by Oldham Athletic.
