Manchester United officially announced on Tuesday that Dutch left-back Alexander Buttner had completed his medical and agreed to a five-year contract with the club. In addition, United also revealed that Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez had been given a governing body endorsement and this will allow him to get his necessary U.K. work permit. Both had been expected to join the club and these announcements are essentially confirmations.

The 23-year-old Buttner has been on the fringes of Holland's national team and his recent performances for Vitesse have caught the eye of some of Europe's bigger clubs. He should provide badly needed cover for Patrice Evra since Fabio has gone on loan to Queens Park Rangers. The deal is speculated to be in the region of £3.9 million. Here is what United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had to say about his new defender:

"Alexander is one of the best young left-backs in Europe and we're delighted to sign him. He's someone we've been watching for a while now. He gives us some really exciting options in that position."

As one might anticipate, Buttner is quite excited to don famous United shirt:

"Joining Manchester United is one of the best days of my life. It's a team I have admired for many years now and I can't wait to join my teammates and play my part in helping the club be successful."

Henriquez is an 18-year-old that has impressed for Universidad de Chile. He has bagged 11 goals in 17 matches for the club and he's also scored 14 goals in 9 appearances for Chile's U-20 side. It is believed that the youngster will make his move to Old Trafford for a fee in the region of £3.5 million. He will play his final game for Universidad de Chile on Wednesday against Santos.

I personally know very little of Henriquez but community member jdw.karasu was kind enough to provide this informative link of Henriquez -- a collection of thoughts from United fans who have watched Henriquez play -- from one of our summer transfer window threads.
